Principal Challenges of Cuban Athletics in 2009
The 12th World Championship in Berlin, from August 15–23, the organization of the Pan-American competitions in Havana, and the Central American and Caribbean championships, are the main challenges of Cuban athletics in 2009.

Of course, we will have many other responsibilities at home this season, such as the first motocross national championship, beginning on Saturday in Ciego de Avila Province and continuing in Granma Province from January 24–25.

Of special significance will be the traditional Jose Marti Marathon, in Santiago de Cuba, convened to commemorate the birth of the “Apostle.” Meanwhile, Villa Clara will host the National Race Walking Championships from February 19–22.

Also in this month are the Pioneer Cup, the Student Games and the Student League—each being held on regional levels across the country’s western, central and eastern areas.

Finally, on February 22 will take place the popular Marabana-Maracuba race, with a journey through the capital. As usual, there will be a total of ten competitions announced for different sites throughout Central American and the Caribbean.
