After abandoning the handing in of awards, which only took place during the first and second edition, the Havana Biennale has been announced with central themes such as tradition and being contemporary, challenges to colonization, art, society and reflection, people and their memory, art with life and the dynamics of urban life.

Under the central theme of Integración y resistencia en la era global (Integration and resistance in the global era), the biennale will take place from March 27th to April 30th, 2009 and according to the announcement, it will stimulate reflection on its own history.
