According to the technical director of the facility, Jose Gonzalez Rodriguez, the unit is in a phase of trials and adjustments and it is expected that in the next few days it will start operating with a generation capacity of 158 megawatts per hour.

Gonzalez explained that 70% of the elements of the boiler, where oil combustion takes place, were replaced while several components of the turbine were also substituted.

The executive stressed that the cost of the modernization was almost $40 million and that some 650 workers participated, including specialists from the Japanese company Hitachi and Germany’s ABB.
