Varadero Receives 1M Tourists in 2008
With that figure, the municipality, about 87 miles east of Havana, reaffirms its leading role in the sector, as 40 percent of the tourists who arrive in Cuba go to its beach.

Amado Acosta, delegate of the Tourism Ministry in Matanzas province, stressed that the number of tourists grows, despite the world economic crisis and the path of hurricanes.

"We keep growing, compared to the same period last year, which was great. The hotels are ready, and we are working in an organized and efficient way," he commented.
