The permanent working committees of the Cuban parliament meet on Tuesday and Wednesday as a prelude to the second ordinary session of the current legislature to take place beginning Friday.

Among the important agenda items are those to be discussed by the Economic Affairs, and Constitutional and Legal Rights committees which include the 2009 budget and the Social Security Law, respectively.

The Economic Affairs Committee will receive a presentation from the ministers of Economy and Planning, and Finances and Prices.

That committee, along with the Constitutional and Judicial Affairs, will also meet with the country’s labor leadership and the Ministry of Labor and Social Security to examine the results of the nationwide workers consultation on a bill to reform the Social Security Law.

The discussions at the Food and Agriculture Committee are also considered of high priority, dealing with the effects on food production from the hurricanes and the strategy put in practice during the current recovery period.
