Russian President Arrives in Havana for Official Visit
Russian President Dimitri Medvedev arrived in Havana Thursday afternoon to begin an official visit to the island at the invitation of his Cuban counterpart, Raúl Castro. Medvedev was received at José Martí International Airport by Ricardo Cabrisas, Vice President of the Council of Ministers, along with Cuba's Foreign Minister Felipe Pérez Roque, and Rodrigo Malmierca, Minister of Foreign Investment and Economic Collaboration.

A broad delegation from Moscow is accompanying the Russian head of state - including: Ígor I. Sechin, Vice President of the Government; Serguey E. Prikhodko, the presidential advisor; and Alexey A. Kuzmitsky, the governor of the region of Kamchacka.

The Russian president's delegation is also made up of Mikhail V. Marguélov, President of the Committee for International Affairs of the Federation of the Federal Assembly; Anatoly N. Pérminov, director of the Federal Space Agency; Anatoly I. Yárochkin, head of the Federal Tourism Agency; Andrey I. Denísov, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs; and Iván S. Matérov, Deputy Minister of Russian Industry and Commerce.

During his official visit to Cuba, Russian President Medvedev will reaffirm the excellent relations between the Russian Federation and the island -- with the aim of further broadening the bilateral economic and commercial ties between the two nations.

Officials from Cuba and Russia will discuss newly proposed projects of cooperation in the areas of transportation, energy, communications, education, the medical and pharmaceutical industries, biotechnology and tourism
