Some 4,000 kidney transplants, more than 100 heart and liver transplant, as well as pancreas-kidney and lung transplants have been performed since 1970 to date.
Transplants were debated at the Congress of the Ibero-American and Caribbean Society of Transplant Coordinators and Organ, Tissue and Cell Donation, held in Cuba recently.
The meeting brought together delegates from a score of countries, who exchanged experiences on keeping donors alive, diagnosis of death, information and communication with the patient's family and development of immunology.
