It was created in 1988 by a group of young and talented musicians graduated from art schools of Cuba, to develop a project of popular Cuban music framed in the 40-50s and to fulfill an engagement at the Sporting Club in Montecarlo. The success of the project made it possible to extend it for five years.

During that time, they shared stage with figures of broad international renown such as Stevie Wonder, Donna Summer, Barry White, James Brown, Ray Charles, Frank Sinatra, Charles Aznavour, Jerry Lewis, Kool and the Gang and Whitney Houston.

This group has made tours of Japan, Europe, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, U.S., and Northern Africa, and performed on important stages like Campanille Festival (Italy), Pacific Fair (Peru), Hard Rock (Mexico), among others.

In 2003, La Charanga Habanera was nominated to the Latin Grammy Awards with the CD “Live in the USA”.
