26th International Trade Fair Opens in Havana
The 26th International Trade Fair (FIHAV 2008)—probably the most important annual commercial event in Cuba— is now underway at ExpoCuba, an exhibition center located on the outskirts of Havana.

While the fair is a good opportunity for signing agreements and starting negotiations, it is also a fitting place for Cuban professionals to get in touch with new, state-of-the-art technologies.

Attending the fair this year are more than 450 firms from 56 countries, a figure that is greater than last year’s, since nine additional countries taking part. Likewise, the exhibition area has expanded.

“This large number of participants is an expression of the confidence of the international community in the recovery of the country after hurricanes Gustav and Ike; it is also an example of the rejection of the blockade imposed on the island by the United States,” the event organizers said.

From Monday to Friday, only registered representatives of companies will have access to the fair, while on Saturday it will be open to the public from 10:00 am to 6:00 pm.

More than 300 Cuban companies from 21 industries are participating in FIHAV 2008.
