Homage to Late Cuban Moviemaker Humberto Solas
At the Cuban Movie Festival, that opened its activities last Tuesday in Peru, Pastor Rodriguez, representing the Cuban Embassy in the Andean country, recalled that Solas was one of the founders of the New Latino American Cinema Festivals and of the Poor Cinema, as well as of the Cuban cinematography born with the Revolution Triumph.

Federico Garcia, moviemaker and director of the Cultural Center of the San Marcos University, declared that Peruvian moviemakers acknowledge the quality of Solas’s works, and his supportive attitude towards all of them.

The Festival was opened with the portraying of ¨El Benny¨, directed by Jorge Luis Sanchez. Later on the event, the Peruvian public will have the chance of enjoying of ¨Viva Cuba¨ by Carlos Cremata, ¨Roble de Olor¨ by Rigoberto Lopez, and ¨Clandestinos¨ by Fernando Perez. In Bolivia, the IX International Cinema and Video of the Indigenous Peoples Festival wrapped up with homage to the Cuban director, pointing out that he was still the talented star that stands for commitment in the eyes of Latin American moviemakers. In this ceremony they highlighted the extensive filmography of Solas, among them movies like ¨Lucia¨, ¨Un Hombre de Exito¨, Cecilia¨and ¨Miel para Ochun¨
