Jose Enrique Niebla, a receptionist at the Ancon Hotel, told ACN that all of the hotel's staff worked hard to reopen the facility in the shortest time possible, since the leisure industry is one of the main income sources for the country.
In previous statements to the press, provincial tourism official Aleinor Zerquera Concepcion said the main damage to the tourist facilities was to the gardens, ceilings, glass panes, and the security and communications systems.
Prior to the passing of Ike along the south coast of Cuba, some 200 tourists staying in
Trinidad-area hotels were transferred to other facilities in the province.
