Precisely, that is the province where the Center for Research and Rehabilitation of Hereditary Ataxias, where experts are studying the procedures and treatments to reduce the limitations caused by the disease, is located.

Experts said the research is aimed at finding a biochemical multitherapy combined with neurological rehabilitation to modify the alterations caused by the disease.

The current stage of clinical trials consists of administering a Cuban-made antioxidant orally for six months to 20 patients who are also undergoing neurological rehabilitation.

The Center's work is of special relevance because it is located in the Cuban region with the highest incidence of ataxias in the Americas, thus the importance of research to improve the patients' quality of life.
