Barbadian Prime Minister David John Howard Thompson Extols Cuban Medical Attention
During a visit made to the Ramon Pando Ferrer Ophthalmologic Institute in Havana, Howard Thompson said that he knew about the work of Cuban experts, something that he could verify in his tour on this installation.

Howard Thompson received wide information on the Vision Now Mission, a project started in Venezuela in 2004 by initiative of Cuban leader Fidel Castro.

Lazaro Vigoa, deputy director of investigations in the Ramon Pando Ferrer Institute, said that thanks to this initiative more than 1.2 million people in Latin America and the Caribbean have been treated or operated on.

Vigoa highlighted the development of ophthalmology in Cuba, which has allowed the extension of specialized attention to the whole country with 23 services, introduction of advanced technology, processes for formation of specialists and high quality of graduates.

Howard Thompson will inaugurate the 39th Assembly of the Caribbean Broadcasting Union (CBU), a non governmental organization based in Barbados comprising radio stations and private, public and governmental television channels in the Caribbean.

The organization is composed by 57 members of 23 countries; of them, 18 belonging to CARICOM and Cuba is the only Hispanic-native language country that belongs to the CBU.
