The producer has in its records some of the most important movies of Cuban movies over the last few years, where he has shown a characteristic mastery.
He, however, confesses that he has selected this stage of the young Martí since his maturity is too much for him, especially because every Cuban has its own Martí.
Pérez, with the collaboration of his assistant, Gloria María Cossío, has made an extensive and deep research in the search of the childhood of this mystery that accompanies us, as was Martí defined by the poet José Lezama Lima.
In the research, persons closely related to the national hero have been much dealt with, people such as José María de Mendive and Fermín Valdés Domínguez –his teacher and his friend respectively, who will be reflected in the new movie.
The producer has made it clear that it will be a fiction movie; I am not interested in making a historical biography of Martí, because if it were so I would have made a documentary. It is obvious that in this case I will show a Martí as I see him, a young boy with a very special sensibility, but also a normal person, like any of us, he said.
