In Ecuador Carmen and Cubas National Symphony Orchestra
The premiere of the new production took place on August 3rd the Teatro Nacional Sucre, with subsequent presentations on August 6th and 8th. Hannah Penn from the US will sing lead, accompanied by Ecuadorian vocal groups, sopranos and tenors including the choirs Ciudad de Quito and Mozarte and the choir of the FTNS -- made up of children and young people. Soloists will include Marlon Valverde, Marisable Albja, Vanessa Lamar, Andrés Carrera, Jorge Cassis, Edwin Gómez, María Fernanda Argotti, Ana María Tamayo, Fabián Gonzáles, Eduardo Vaca and Paulina Tapia. Lucía Chía Patiño is in charge of production, with maestro Alvaro Manzano as the musical director. Manzano has already worked twice with the Cuban National Symphony Orchestra and is an expert on this opera, written in four acts by Bizet in 1875. The Cuban National Symphony Orchestra arrived in Quito invited by the Foundation Teatro Nacional Sucre. As part of the event, there is a three-day conference on opera, organized by Fernando Iturralde, to promote an open dialogue, as well as a detailed exploration of the opera world, particularly Carmen.
