The sculptural complex is made up of a Plaza, featuring a bronze statue of Che Guevara on top of a 16-meter-high pedestal by Cuban sculptor Jose Darra. Cultural and political activities are carried out at the plaza that can host more than 80,000 people.
The complex also contains a museum, and murals that show different stages of battles that took place in the Sierra Maestra mountain range during the final liberation war of the island, images of the invasion by rebel columns in western Cuba, Che at the Escambray Mountain, and the battle of Santa Clara, led by the Argentinean-born revolutionary.
Over the last ten years, more than a million people from around the world have visited the center, said Veneranda Fe, with increased attendance during the 80th anniversary of Che's birthday, she noted.
