Melba and Haydee were exceptional protagonists of the Moncada Garrison attack.

The attacks to the Moncada Garrison in Santiago de Cuba and that of Carlos Manuel de Cespedes in Bayamo on July 26, 1953 marked the beginning of the Cuban insurrectional struggle against the Fulgencio Batista dictatorship.
