César López, 1999 Literature Award winner, made a dissertation about Italo Calvino´s book La máquina Literaria that includes the essay ¿Por qué leer a los clásicos? that is an illustration of the culture and opening of a man such as Calvino, who was born at the Santiago de las Vegas neighbourhood, Havana City, the 15 of October 1923.
He recalled Calvino´s reflections about the difference in reading a teenage text and an adult text, the motives why a book is considered a "classic" and the need at the same time to see the current literature.
Lopez said to AIN how beautiful is to see the participation for over 10 years of the Cuban writers in this event that stimulates the national narrative and is called by the UNEAC, the Italian cultural organization ARCI and the Italo Calvino Foundation.
Marcelo Magrini, coordinator of the ARCI – Cuba – Tuscany Group talked about the versatility of the one of the most important Italian writers of the XX century, who died in Siena the 19 of September 1985.
Magrini praised the personal capacity of his imagination in scientific topics and in literary theory of the young writer, who left for Italy together with his parents and brothers, where he studied and was made a narrator and an essay writer.
After congratulate the award winners, he highlighted that this competition expresses a deep will of the organizing parties to establish strong relationships between the two countries.
Miguel Barnet, president of UNEAC, Rodney Lopez and Domenico Vecchini Cuban and Italian Ambassadors in Roma and Havana respectively, as well as several National Literature Award winners and Daniele Lorenzi, of the ARCI Nacional took part in the ceremony.
