Cuba extends surgery with excimer laser technique to seven of its 14 provinces with an ophthalmic center in east of Havana.
Enrique Machado, head of the national program, opened the new ophthalmic center in Faustino Perez, 62.13 miles east of Havana, for myopia, hypertrophy and astigmatism.
Four doctors, four nurses and two interns operate with Excimer laser technique that helps reduce inconveniences of surgery for the 25 minute procedure makes stitches and bandage unnecessary.
Cuba provides its people this service for free while else where the procedure may cost between $400 and $3,000.
