Limones-Tuabaquey, a New Protected Area in Camagüey, Cuba

The punctilious educational work carried out in this area, not only in the nearby school but also in the community itself, is deservedly acknowledged with the granting of this category.
The proper handling of the natural resources in Limones-Tuabaquey, has permitted an increase in the number of individuals, belongings to the endemic fauna like the Tocororo (Priotelus temnurus), the Cuban Parrot, the Hutia and the Cuban Tody (Todus multicolor), animals that can be seen after requesting the visit.
This year, the executive staff of this important Camagueyan ecosystem also expects to win the National Award of Environment, once Limones-Tuabaquey already won it at a provincial level.
Apart from Limones-Tuabaquey, there are other locations in Camaguey which are classified as being protected areas, such as the mouth of the Maximo River, the Ballenatos islands and the mangrove swamps of Nuevita’s bay, the Sierra del Chorrillo and the fossilized forest of Najasa.
