Chess: Cuban GM Leinier Dominguez Reaches Best ELO in Latin American History
Cuban Grand Master Leinier Dominguez added ten points to his ELO rating with his performance in the Masters Tournament in Sarajevo, thus becoming the first Latin American player with an ELO above 2,700.

Dominguez, undefeated in the tournament, managed two wins and eight draws to finish second with six units behind Russian GM Alexander Morozevich (third in the world ranking with 2,774 ELO), who accumulated 7.5 units.

The Cuban GM drew on Monday with defending champ Slovakian Sergei Movsesian (2,695), after 15 moves of a Sicilian Defense.

In another last-round match this Monday, Morozevish drew with fellow GM Artyom Timofeev (2,664) to finish undefeated with five draws and five wins.

Third in the tournament went to Movsesian (5 units), fourth to Russian GM Artyom Timofeev (2,664) with 4.5, fifth place to host GM Borki Predojevic (2651) with four units, and in sixth was Dutch GM Ivan Sokolov (2,690) with three units.

The Chess Masters Tournament of Sarajevo, Bosnia, featuring six of the world's top players, has been considered by experts the toughest tournament to date for Leinier Dominguez.
