Holguin, Cuba: Music Festival to Honor El Guayabero

The festival, a mix of music and humor, will feature concerts and shows by Los guayaberos, Irma Oramas, Familia Valera- Miranda, Tiburon Morales, Pagola la Paga and Carlos Gonzalvo.
El Guayabero was a beloved artist known for his unique, and crillo humor-charged songs. He had a long career in which he performed several different genres of Cuban music, from música guajira (country music) to son, tumbao and trova.
Faustino Oramas died in March last year from health complications. He performed live with his band in Holguin regularly at La Casa de la Trova up until a few months before he passed away.
El Guayabero received the National Award for Humor in 2002 and received a special recognition in 2006 from his hometown of Holguín and was recognized as Juglar Mayor de Cuba.
A replica of El Guayabero was made in Holguin in homage to one of the city’s most famous sons. /Leandro Estupiñan
