Experts are also working on the enlargement of sports facilities and maintenance of the training boats, in addition to fostering cooperation with retired athletes.

The specialists added that every February, they tour the region's municipalities to sign local athletes for the provincial teams.

As a result, Cienfuegos' performance at national competitions has improved and local athletes may join the national elite in such sports as rowing and sailing.
