Therefore, getting closer to nature from a beach or city adds value to the country's tourist product, especially in Cuba, whose fauna is made up of 16,500 described species, more than 90 percent of which are endemic.

In addition, the island's native flora is made up of more than 6,300 multicolored species.

Well-preserved natural and biosphere reserves, natural landscapes, national parks and protected areas provide a wide range of offers, which are complemented by the infrastructure necessary to combine vacations and health improvement.

Thousands of experts, cutting-edge equipment and dozens of specialized centers provide medical care, including traditional and natural medicine.

That method, also known as alternative or complementary medicine, is based on experiences and practices that have passed from generation to generation.

It is also an option to treat a wide range of ailments effectively without administering pharmaceuticals, which can cause side effects in some cases.

At the same time, more than 70,000 kilometers of Cuba's insular platform and 5,000 kilometers of coastline, bathed by the Atlantic Ocean and the Caribbean Sea, are available for diving enthusiasts.

Nearly 6,500 species of fish, crustaceans, sponges and mollusks, and several species of corals, turn the Caribbean Island into one of the best-preserved underwater ecosystems in the region.

Some 30 diving centers are functional throughout the country, where vacationers can take initiation courses and practice scuba diving and snorkeling, under internationally-accepted standards.

The country's tourist expansion also includes the northern keys, which offer several kilometers of pristine beaches.

A 48-kilometer causeway over the sea connects the main island with the keys Santa María, Las Brujas, Ensenachos, Cobos, Majá, Fragoso, Francés, Las Picúas and Español de Adentro, among others.

In addition, Cayo Largo del Sur, offers 24 kilometers of excellent beaches of fine white sand.
