Cuban maestro Frank Fernández performed at the International Fair Cubadisco: Rhapsody in Blue
The renowned Cuban pianist included saxophones, a bass and a jazz drummer, just like the original score, which the Cuban audience has had too few possibilities to enjoy.

The Rhapsody in Blue was composed for piano and jazz band in 1924 and had its premier that same year in New York City, at a concert conducted by Paul Whiteman and his band with Gershwin himself playing the piano.

Some years later, arranger Ferde Grofé scored a new version for piano and symphony orchestra, turning it into one of the highest acclaimed pieces of contemporary music.

Frank Fernández has interpreted the piece on various occasions. It requires that the interpreter master not only classic piano, but also jazz and popular music.

Other equally renowned Cuban musicians performed during the opening gala of Cubadisco 2008, conducted by maestro Roberto Valera.
