XII Edition of Barriocuento 2008 will last until next Sunday in Cuba
Theater makers and story tellers from Mexico, Brazil and Cuba, as the host country will animate an oral narration festival destined to the rescue of this tradition in Latin America and the Caribbean, which started here.

Sponsored by the National Staging Arts Council and cultural institutions from Old Havana, the guest of honor of Barriocuento 2008 will be the island of Guadalupe and it will pay tribute to the recently deceased poet from Martinique Aimé Césaire.

According to the organizers, one of the novelties from this edition is the handing over of the Mackandal awards, inspired in that Haitian slave, main character of the text El reino de este mundo (The kingdom of this world), by the Cuban writer Alejo Carpentier(1904-1980). The jury awarded the award to the Cuban moviemaker Rigoberto López (Roble de olor), for the rescue, through his work of the traditional Caribbean culture.

The award also went to the artists from Guadalupe, Gilbert Laumord and the Cuban actress Georgina Almanza, Radio National Award.

Another the important activity in the program will be the narration of childrens tales by children and young people.
