Sergei Tiviakov Among the Best in Capablanca In Memoriam, Underway in Havana, Cuba.
Tiviakov has the best ranking (2, 634 ELO rating) among the foreigners in the strong event. He is in the position 84 at world level and according to the specialists' opinion he will be the man to defeat for the title in his group.

The Cuban Granma newspaper says that the chess star shows several victories in international contests, included the most recent continental crown, in Plovdiv, Bulgaria, with 8.5 points of 11 possible among the 337 contestants, all with Elo superior to the 2, 600.

Sergei Tiviakov was born in Russia on February 14, 1973 and since 1997 he lives in the Dutch city of Groningen. He represented that country in the World Olympiads. He graduated in agricultural Economy and since July 2000 is included among the top 100 in the world. His best location was in October 2005, when he ascended to the place 20, with 2, 699 rating.

In games against the Cubans he tied two times with Leinier Domínguez (2, 695) and three with Lázaro Bruzón (2, 608).
