Fidel Castro 50 Years as Commander in Chief
After the relative failure of the general strike foreseen for April 9, 1958, with the purpose of destabilizing the foundations of the dictatorship headed by Fulgencio Batista, the eastern mountains welcomed the revolutionary leaders to analyze events and to eatablish strategies that would define the course of the actions until the conquest of the military and political power.

The selection of Fidel as maximum leader of the belligerent actions of the M26-7, in the mountain and in the flat lands, unified the command and consolidated its political-revolutionary leadership, in a context where there were several organizations that acted against the the dictatorship, with diverse tactical of fight and purposes.

The Secretariat of the Movement 26-7 was created in the insurgent conclave, with headquarters in the Sierra Maestra and its executive general secretary was Fidel Castro.

Other momentous agreements were adopted in the meeting, included the coherent organization of the M26-7 that would be decisive in subsequent agreements with the other organizations that fought against Batista.

That reality concluded with the constitution of the wide Civic Revolutionary Front on July 20, 1958, that would transcend as Pact of Caracas, signed by almost all the representatives of the organizations that wanted to overthrow the dictatorship.
So this favored that during these 50 years Fidel's thinking and revolutionary action have shone in the national and in international arena.

His transparent way of acting conquered the respect and the admiration of the oppressed people who found in him inspiration, orientation and unconditional support.

Convalescent, but activate and lucid, battling from his new trench of ideas, where he throws to the world his enlightening reflections, Fidel continues being the undeniable Commander in Chief by decision of his people.
