Caribbean Community (CARICOM) leaders, in the analysis of the violence situation in the region.
The debate, they said, will allow pondering on crime and public security, and establish a strategy and action plan to restrain the increasing wave of regional violence.

The crime rate has considerably increased in several Caribbean islands, particularly Jamaica, Guyana, Bahamas, and Trinidad and Tobago, with over 2,500 crimes reported last year in those four countries.

"We believe we can draw up appropriate solutions," Trinidad and Tobago"s Prime Minister Patrick Manning said during the meeting"s opening on Saturday.

It has been made clear during the forum that some of the policies to be adopted might be inconsistent with other areas or inappropriate for certain countries, but participants have agreed it is necessary to assume a common, favorable stance for the region.
