Manzano, recently elected to the National Executive of UNEACs Association of Musicians, criticized the lack of venues in the country where new young creators can perform, both for the Cuban public and international tourism.
A better promotion of Cuban contemporary music "by way of its airtime in the national media and the participation of musicians at international festivals" would encourage new talent, emphasized the young trumpet player.
The defense of creation amid current threats from the market was another of the points discussed by the artist. Manzano said that the only way to prevent musicians from risking the quality of their compositions and interpretations, or change their work for a more simplistic genre, is to develop a real contemporary music culture in the Cuban public.
"The Congress has been an ideal framework to make everything clear, where delegates representing the various artistic expressions have presented their concerns and demands," said Manzano. "I hope the newly elected UNEAC officials contribute to make each of the propositions viable," he added.
"From my post, I promise to boost all actions contributing to the development of culture, the most precious thing we have," concluded the versatile musician.
The congress of the countrys artistic and intellectual avant-garde concluded its third of four days of sessions Thursday with the presentation of the members of the organizations National Council and of the leaders of the UNEAC associations, who will guide its destiny over the next five years.
