Cuba Mourns Death of eminient Endocrinologist

De Acosta Fernandez, who accumulated nearly half a century of experience in medical school teaching, was born August 19, 1927 in Havana and graduated with a medical degree from the University of Havana in 1951.

He served as deputy director of Medical Teaching in the National Public Health School 1959-1962 and as director and founder of the National Endocrinology Institute 1966-2002. He was also president of the Cuban Diabetes Association since 1978.

Prof. De Acosta was a member of the Latin American Association of Human Reproductive Research since 1971 and of the Cuban Association of Medical History since 1984. Among other positions, he led the National Endocrinology Group until 2005.
