The meteorological phenomenon
In the last few days, this event has caused intensive rainfalls, with consequent damages in the South American region, "Juventud Rebelde" newspaper reported Sunday.

Experts state that "La Nina" typical influence on the island is characterized by a decrease of rainfalls during the less wet stage, mainly between January and April, so such season trends to have less rain than normal.

They also said that weather behavior is not only modulated by such event, but also by other factors, like the East phase of the Quasi-biennial Oscillation, starting these days and could still make the current seasonal period in the country less wet.

According to the World Meteorology organization forecasts, the phenomenon is now in development and will last at least until mid 2008.

Its effects have already been felt in the Equatorial Pacific zones of India, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
