The UN resident coordinator attended the premiere of the book
The UN resident coordinator attended the premiere of the book "Ecosistema Sabana Camaguey, Estado actual" (Sabana Camaguey Ecosystem, the current situation) at the National Aquarium in Havana. The book addresses the achievements and challenges involved in the preservation and sustainability of biodiversity.

The Sabana Camaguey Project was started in 1993 to protect the biodiversity of this ecosystem. It is sponsored by the Cuban government alongside the UNDP and other international donors mainly from Canada.

According to MacDade, this experience should be extended to the rest of Latin America and the Caribbean. A better knowledge of the terrestrial and ocean biodiversity in the area, plus a coastal monitoring net and growing environmental awareness in the local communities have been the main results so far.

We must preserve and make rational use of biodiversity, aware of the impact of climate change. Otherwise, we will not meet the Millennium Development Goals, concluded MacDade.
