During a meeting with Cuban Minister of Education Luis Ignacio Gomez, Haddad noted that thousands of children, teenagers and adults in northeastern Brazilian do not know how to read or write and that the government wants to support their becoming literate.
Gomez recalled that Brazil already has had a first experience with the application of Yo Si Puedo in Portuguese, adapted to its specific conditions.
Haddad also expressed interest in Cuba's pre-school education system. He noted that the island has an impressive methodology of social organization to support families, an important part of the learning process.
In the coming days, the Brazilian Education minister, who is part of a large delegation headed by President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, will tour several places of interest in the effort to strengthen ties between the two countries.
