As it is usual the Casa de las Américas starts every year the Cuban literary adventure with one of the most important awards in the continent, in which have take part for over halve a century Latin American and Caribbean personalities.

From the 21st up to the 31st of this month about twenty writers and specialists will gather together and will evaluated hundred of works that hopes to get the Casa Award in poetry, story, and essay of a social - historical topic, Brazilian literature and Caribbean literature in French or Creole.

His anthology Contra la muerte y otras visiones (Against death and other visions) as well as Sobre salvajes (Savage envelops) and Seva written by the Venezuelan Gustavo Pereira and the Puerto Rican López Nieves will be presented in the event. Pereira and López Nieves are poetry and narrative jury respectively.

As every year will be available the awarded books from previous editions: the novel Mil y una (Thousand and One) (Argentina); the essay Los juegos de la escritura o la (re) escritura de la Historia (The games of writing of the re writing of History) (Cuba); the theatre play Heptalogía de Hieronymus Bosch: 6. La paranoia (Heptalogy of Hieronymus Bosh: 6 The paranoia) (Argentina) and the testimony Oblivion (Uruguay).

These books edited by the Cultural Fund of Casa de las Americas will be presented for the first time in Cienfuegos, where a jury will seat, who after their return to Havana will share the traditional afternoons with the public about the current literature of the region.

Together with exclusive concerts one of the special moments of the event will be the opening of an exhibition of the important Mexican plastic artists José Luis Cuevas at the Latin American Gallery.

There will be a concert of the flute player Niurka González Núñez and the Ensemble Solistas de La Habana at the San Francisco de Paula church and another of the singer Miriam Ramos and the pianist and composer Rolando Luna at the Che Guevara hall.
