Cuban Official Satisfied with Brazil Visit
Cuban Foreign Trade Minister Raul de la Nuez said he is satisfied with results of his visit to Brazil this week.

Interviewed by Prensa Latina before returning to Havana, de la Nuez said that the Second Session of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission held this week in Brazil concluded successfully.

Participants checked different projects implemented by both parts with positive results, there was progress made in all plans analyzed, and established new goals, the Minister pointed out.

He explained both countries are working to collaborate in agriculture, management of mineral resources and health with interesting projects like a bank of mother s milk.

The parties enhanced collaboration in the iron and steel sector, in information technology, as well as benefited mutually from information centers in the National Library, Havana University and the SIME industries network, the Cuban minister stated.

He said that as for bilateral links, the Foreign Trade Ministry and the Banco do Brasil agreed to the possible expansiont of the credit given to Cuba to purchase food.

"We examined with the Health Ministry projects of transference of technology from the Cuban Center of Genetic Engineering to produce here a new interferon product," he stated.

Among sites visited were centers for sugarcane production and those of sugar, alcohol and industrial products from Piracicaba, 99 miles from Sao Paulo.

"We also made a courtesy visit to EMBRAER, which builds a top-technology passenger jet, and although we do not have the intention to purchase those planes now, we knew of their potential," the minister asserted.

De la Nuez also referred to the interest by Brazilian business people to negotiate with Cuban companies and invest in interesting business opportunities in mining, construction and the food industry sectors.
