Cuba receives millions of dollars annually for the production and export of medicines, vaccines and instruments, said Public Health Minister José Ramón Balaguer.
The official spoke during the celebration of the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Medicid digital electro-encephalograph.
In the celebration, held on Thursday at the Havana Conventions Center, the will of the Cuban medical industry was highlighted by pointing out the fact equipment is provided to every corner of the country to develop technologies to substitute for imports and to increase exports.
"Commander-in-chief Fidel Castro should feel very pleased when verifying that our country now competes with developed nations in the area of science, and that our centers and specialists rub shoulders with the best on the planet," said Balaguer.
It was recalled that 25 years ago a group of doctors and specialists for the then Neuroscience Department of the National Center for Scientific Research, along with engineers and technicians from the Central Institute of Digital Research (ICID), collaborated to develop the Medicid 03, the first Cuban medical instrument ever exported and the first of its type in the world.
The Cuban medical instrument industry was born in this way. Subsequently, ICID developed other cardiological instruments, such as digital electrocardiographs, defibrillators-monitors and electro-stimulators - all now commonly used in therapy rooms.
