Mexico and Cuba signed a two-year agreement led by the Latin American and Caribbean Pedagogical Institute of Cuba, which has made possible the successful implementation of the literacy program.

The Mexican municipality of Chimalhuacan reported the highest number of graduates from the Cuban literacy teaching method called ALFA TV, with 3,800 people who have learned to read and write in the past two years.Mexico and Cuba signed a two-year agreement led by the Latin American and Caribbean Pedagogical Institute of Cuba, which has made possible the successful implementation of the literacy program, Notimex reported.
Programs coordinator Mileysi Gonzalez said the latest generation of graduates included 156 groups from different parts of Chimalhuacan and most of the students having completed the seven-week course.

The method consists of videotaped lessons given two hours a day with the assistance of volunteer instructors known as facilitators.

A follow-up stage for those who finish the studies is carried out by the National Education Institute for Adults, which gives the new graduates the opportunity to continue their studies in other educational institutions of the country.
