The end of the US blockade against Cuba and the release of the five Cuban political prisoners in the United States are two of the demands included in the final declaration of the 15th Congress of Latin American and Caribbean Students (OCLAE) that concluded last Friday in Quito, Ecuador.

The event was attended by thousands of students of the region who marched along the streets of Quito from the Central University to the
San Francisco Square on Friday to commemorate Students? International Day on November 17th and to issue a call for regional integration.

This march put an end to a week of discussions and exchanges in which participants urged Latin American and Caribbean peoples to consolidate their unity.

"Society is the framework where the students? movement has to play its role as revolutionary vanguard," reads the final declaration of the meeting.

During the event, the Cuban Federation of University Students (FEU) was re-elected in the direction of OCLAE while the National Union of Students of Nicaragua and the UNE of Brazil were ratified as members of its Executive Secretariat.

"Our commitment for the next two years is to implement all the accords reached in this Congress and to defend the unity of the Latin American student movement," said FEU president Carlos Lage Codorniú.
