Cuban Latin American School of Medicine Celebrates  Eighth Anniversary

Good health and long life; thats what students, professors and graduates from Havanas Latin American School of Medicine (ELAM) wished Commander in Chief Fidel Castro, while celebrating the centers eighth birthday on Thursday.

The festivities took place at the same square where, in 1999, the Cuban president officially inaugurated this program in favor of life, and as a concrete expression of solidarity and integration with the participation of leaders attending the Ninth Ibero-American Summit.

On behalf of the more than 10, 000 ELAM students, Student President Nesio Fernandes de Medeiros said, "We have lived with the Cuban people, and today we are aware of the value of internationalism. We are being trained as part of an army of men and women of white coats, with the noble mission of curing people and societies. We will join in the task of turning the Americas into a free and united continent, where social justice prevails."

During the activity, ELAM Vice President Dr. Midalys Castilla said that the school had managed to stand the test of time, and considered will continue to endeavor to obtain many more important victories in years to come
