The eastern Cuban province of Holguín will promote the use of a medication known as PREGNON, which is considered an emergency contraceptive drug.

The drug, which is used to prevent unwanted pregnancies, is one of the most effective products of its kind in the world.

The treatment consists of two 1.5-milligram tablets that can be taken up to 72 hours after having unprotected sexual relations.

The effectiveness of the drug depends on the time elapsed since unprotected intercourse, but if the woman is already pregnant, the drug does not work as an abortive method.

The medication is based on the Yuzpe method, which is known worldwide because it is effective and it reduces the risk of pregnancy up to 74.1 percent.
