National Fine Art prizewinner Jose Gomez Fresquet dies
Cuban artist and graphic designer, José Gómez Fresquet, most well known by his nickname Frémez, died aged 67 in the early hours of Wednesday morning, following a prolonged period of illness. Cuban graphic design has lost one of its brightest stars.

Winner of the Nacional Fine Art Prize in 2005, Frémez was also vice-president of the Cuban Artists' and Writers' Union, a role he put a great deal of energy into over recent years.

Over his long and succesful carreer, he accumulated dozens of national awards for work which scanned etchings and cartoons, political and graphic art as well as poster art for which he was recognised as one of Cuba's frontrunning innovators.
