The Toxicology and Biomedicine Center (TOXIMED), in the eastern city of Santiago de Cuba, is promoting a Project to improve occupational health in the island nation.
The center, which provides advisory services to workers, has treated more than 1,000 patients so far.
Experts at the center take an integral and preventive approach to preserve the life of workers.
Center officials pointed out that 16 local companies and institutions, including the local oil refinery, have benefited from the project.
TOXIMED professionals assess chemical, physical and psychological risks affecting specific work places.
That way, they provide multidisciplinary medical care, referring patients to other specialists, depending on their health problems. They also organize educational lectures about the use of protective means and other subjects of interest.
