According to Doctor Eduardo Garcia Perez, periodontics specialist and research team leader, tests were conducted on smokers, non-smokers, and smokers that gave up during the research period.
Results showed that gum tissues are more affected in smokers, who also develop a tartar around the teeth. Other related consequences of smoking are gum swelling, bone breakage, and a poorer response to medical treatment.
It is essential that pregnant women avoid smoking, told ACN Doctor Garcia, since it has direct consequences on the weight of newly born.
