X Alfonso

As it happened in the 2005 edition, musician X Alfonso took the first laurels at the 2006 Lucas Awards, for Best Video Clip of the Year, with "Una interrogante" (A question), directed by the artist himself, Best Direction and Best Fusion Music Video Clip.

In the previous edition, held in November 2005, the also video maker X Alfonso was the big winner by running off with the Best Video Clip of the Year and six other awards: Best Edition, Best Male Musical Artist, Best Direction, Best Rap Music Video Clip, Best Fusion Music Video Clip and the tribute of the Hermanos Saíz Association, which also granted him another award for Best Experimental Video Clip, for "Santa".

At the gala of the 2006 Lucas Awards, held at the Avellaneda Hall of the National Theater of Cuba, Isis Flores received three awards for Best Female Video Clip, Best Pop Music Video Clip and Best Female Performance with "Voy a darte" (Ill give you), directed by Alfredo Ureta.

The Most Popular Video Clip award went to "No tengo la culpa" (It was not my fault), by Pedrito Camacho y su Clan, under the direction by Yusnel Suárez. More that a half million people preferred this video clip among the six that opted for the award.

Hipnosis group with "The chosen one", directed by Ana Margarita Moreno and Fernando Morlans picked three laurels too: Best Rock Music Video Clip, Best Group Video Clip and the award of the Hermanos Saíz Association.

Raúl Paz clinched the award for Best Male Video Clip with "Mama", directed by Gretel Echarte, while the vocal group Sampling obtained the award for Best Traditional Music Video Clip with "Apretaíto pero relaja'o", directed by Ian Padrón.

"Impacto" (Impact) was the Best Rap, Hip Hop and Reggaeton Music Video Clip, with "Fuácata", directed Bilko Cuervo, as Vania walked off with the award for Best Song, Balad and Trova Video Clip.

The Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater of Cuba housed the first presentation ceremony of the 2006 Lucas Awards. These are the awardees.

A jury of specialists made the selection of the best video clips produced over the last twelve months on the island for their likely inclusion in the list of Lucas Awards, which first edition took place in 1998.

According to organizers, the first edition of the contest had only nine categories in competition, which increased to 19 in 2004 and comprises 23 now.

Lucas Awards and the TV program bearing the same name are the main boosters of video clip production in Cuba.
