8th Congress on Penal Sciences

Delegates from 30 countries, attending the 8th Congress on Penal Sciences, are expected to debate in this capital Wednesday on State terrorism against Cuba, among other aspects of that dangerous international scourge.

Lawyers, judges, attorneys, forensic experts, prison center staff, criminologists, victimologists, sociologists, psychologists, professors and related students are also due to analyze current issues on criminal law, the accused s right to defense and organized crime.

The workshop on terrorism will be led by Chinese Liang Shangxue, from that country s Public Security Department, and Brazilian professor Antonio Ezequiel, president of the Inter-American Institute on Law and Penal Process.

Other papers include the anti-terrorist struggle and violation of procedural rights of detainees in the illegal US naval base of Guantanamo, Cuba.

The aim of this event is to foster exchange of experiences on the world development of penal sciences. Papers will explain obstacles for Penal Sciences in several parts of the world and their contrasts between nations.

Congresses related with this law branch have taken place uninterruptedly in Cuba every two years since 1992, attended by outstanding experts worldwide.
