Urban agriculture
Over 350 thousand Cubans are working today in the Urban Agricultural Movement with the objective to increase the still depressed supply of agricultural products in the Caribbean nation.

The movement appeared in 1994 and is also implemented in Venezuela, based on an ecological approach with the substitution of fertilizers and pesticides by organic fertilizer and biological controls against plague.

According to details given by the Cuban Association of Agricultural and Forest Technicians cited by Gramma newspaper digital version there are about 40 thousand retired persons and 68 thousand women which are considered among the most outstanding working force of the Movement.

Almost 11 thousand university students and 27,900 middle-level technicians help with the program that has raised its production several times in the 12 year period.
