World Environment Day  2007

The ACINOX steel company of Las Tunas and the " Las Licuas-Cayo Cristo " Marine Natural Reserve located in Villa Clara province are among this year's nominees to the National Environment Award of the Republic of Cuba.

This award was created in 2001 with the aim of rewarding companies, workplaces, organizations and individuals that have developed a significant support for the solution or diminishing of the impact of environmental problems.

Also included in the list are the Environmental Education Promotion Group of the" Enrique Jose Varona " Higher Pedagogical Institute, the AnimalReserve of Rio Maximo in Camaguey province, the workers at the Garden of Ferns in Santiago de Cuba, the Marcial Jiménez rural community in Granma province, the Camaguey branch of the Soils Institute, and the State Working Group in charge of the Havana harbor management.

The list is completed with the name of two Cuban scientists, Maria Elena Ibarra Ph.D. the Director General of the Marine Research Center and the Professor of the Zoology Department of the School of Biology of the University of Havana, and Eduardo Lopez Batista Ph.D. Assistant Professor of the School of Economic and Business Sciences of the University of Cienfuegos.

This award is given every year within the program of activities that take place in Cuba to celebrate World Environment Day that is celebrated on the 5th of June.
