Daylight Savings Time takes effect in Cuba at midnight Saturday March 10 when the islands clocks will be moved ahead an hour.

The switch from Standard to Daylight Savings Time takes place each year to take advantage of solar light during peak hours and to save energy, informed the ministry of Basic Industry.

Especially this year, when climatic change is bringing high temperatures and the resulting greater use of electricity, it is important for the population and the nations economy to do everything possible to reduce energy use, stated a press release issued on Thursday.

Meanwhile, most of the United States also goes on Daylight Savings Time on the same date as Cuba while the European Union changes to what it calls Summertime on March 25.
