Solidarity with Moore at Cuba International Event

Prestigious Latin American filmmakers at the recently concluded fifth International Culture Congress in Havana expressed solidarity with US filmmaker Michael Moore, who is being bombarded with criticism by his country's government.

Interviewed by local TV, Omar Gonzalez, president of the Cuban Institute of Cinematographic Art and Industry (ICAIC), praised Moore s work and rejected condemnation against him by the power that labels itself democratic.

Meanwhile, Argentine scriptwriter Octavio Gettino said "transnationals are trying to silence Moore s film "Sicko" by diverting attention to an alleged violation of the anti-Cuba blockade."

"The objective is to turn attention to a minor issue, and hide the film's harsh criticism of the US health system," he added.

Alfredo Guevara, president of the Festival of New Latin American Cinema, asserted, Sicko s director "has unmasked the empire, and fakes do not like being unveiled."

Cuban filmmaker Rigoberto Lopez Pego joined the list of friends of Moore s cause, noting the attempts to deprive him of his democratic rights.
